1350 Ala Moana is considered the original luxury condominium building in Kakaako for the lifestyle of having shopping conveniences of Ala Shopping Center and the outdoor lifestyle of Ala Moana Beach Park across the street in either direction. It was WAY ahead of its time. Built in 1968, the next luxury highrise, Nauru Tower didn't come on to the scene until 1990. Since then, the lurxury Kakaako lifestyle has taken off with the addition of many more towers you see on the links to your right.
Luxury spared no expense at the time as one of Hawaii wealthiest people and philantropists Harry Weinberg chose as his primary residence. There's a lovely driveway and entry, the security guards and door people are as nice as can be, the grounds, work out room and pool overlooking Ala Moana were well ahead of its time as well. The only downside I see about 1350 relative to the newer building in the area is most only come with 1 parking stall and the majority of the units face either towards Diamond Head or the Ewa Plain. Whereas, new buildings like Nauru Tower and Hokua have all the units facing the ocean. This was also a sign of the times back then. Parking was as not as much an issue as it is today and there was less built up back then as today, so some of the units views over the years have been obstructed.
You can find all sort of finishing improvements within 1350 Ala Moana from original condition units with shag carpet and pastel appliances to today's standards of granite countertops and stainless appliances. The units do have great bones and have timeless floor plans with lanais. The original architecture also provides for some great cross-ventilation.
