Neighborhood Information about Manoa - Manoa is one of the more sought after neighborhoods in metro Honolulu. It's a lush valley between Saint Louis Heights and Tantalus. There's actually 4 Manoa Neighborhoods in MLS. Manoa Area, Manoa-Lower, Manoa-Upper and Manoa-Woodlawn (which is on the right hand side of the valley looking inland from the ocean). It can often be said in Manoa that you can have rain falling down from above, yet when you look up you see blue skies. This is also why Manoa is home to many rainbows.

Manoa Schools

Manoa is home to the University of Hawaii (UH) main campus, several public schools such as Manoa Elementary, Noelani Elementary and Voyager Public School. It's also home to private schools such as Punahou School, Mid Pacific Academy and University Laboratory School.

Manoa Shopping

Manoa Marketplace is the main shopping center in Manoa Valley and is anchored by a Safeway Supermarket and Longs Drugs. There's also a U.S. Post Office, UPS Store, and banks such as American Savings, Central Pacific, First Hawaiian and Territorial Savings. In addition to fast food places such as McDonald's and Subway, Manoa Marketplace has several other boutique stores and restaurants.

Across from Manoa Marketplace you can find a strip mall anchored by Starbucks and is home to Andy's Sandwiches and Smoothes, which is an iconic place that's been around for decades.

Historic and Mid Century Modern Homes in Manoa

Manoa is also the home to many of Honolulu's historic homes, many of which were built in the early 1900's. Once a month, the homes on the historic registry are available for exterior viewing. However, you can always get an appreciation of the architecture driving by any day of the week.

In addition to historic homes, there's a bunch of mid century modern homes throughout Manoa, primarily on the Woodlawn side of the valley. One street in particular - Melemele Place is home to several masterpieces by Alfred Preis.
