One Ala Moana was a joint venture among many developers that included General Growth, Howard Hughes, MacNaughton/Kobayashi Groups as well as an equity partner from Asia. It was an instant success with units selling out within a week. A chunk of units that encompassed roughly 30% of the building was sold overseas in Japan prior to the rest of the units going to market here.
Originally, it was over Nordstrom on the Mauka (mountain) side of Ala Moana Shopping Center, however Nordstrom has since moved to the newer Ewa (west) wing of the mall. Unlike some of the newer high rises in Kakaako, this is a much more modest highrise at 23 stories and was the "test pilot" or predecessor to Park Lane in proving a high end luxury condo project at the mall would be in high demand.
