Neighborhood information on Wailupe: Wailupe is known for its peninsula, which was once a fish pond. The perimeter was dredged to form the current deep water channel and the fill was used to create the peninsula in back in the 50's by Dillingham. My Grandfather owned a home there in the 70's and 80's, which was a pleasure to experience. Today, Wailupe Circle is one of the most sought after streets in East Honolulu. I have many friends that live there and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Nearby shopping at Aina Shopping Center provides many conveniences within a few blocks driving (or walking) distance.
