Believe it or not, the Ilikai is what brought my mother to Hawaii in the 1960's. Her stepfather, Guy Harrison was a real estate developer in southern California. He was out here on a vacation and happened to be driving by where the site of the Ilikai is today and asked the cab driver to pull over. He couldn't believe the property. He was just in the process and had plans to build a new condo building in Marina Del Ray when he stumbled upon the site. Excited, he secured an option on the property, moved the family out to Hawaii and teamed up with Chin Ho to develop the Ilikai and the rest is history...

Today the Ilikai is one of the most iconic buildings in all of Honolulu. It was put on the map big time when the opening scene of the original Hawaii Five-O was shot there with Jack Lord. Although the Ilikai Apartments are individually owned condos, there are many that function as a hotel as owners decide to or have the option of either living in them, renting out on their own or putting their unit in the hotel pool.

In addition to the residential units at the Ilikai, there are many retail shops and food operations at the lobby level. Sarrento's at the "Top of the I" is famous restaurant at the top that has been around forever and is one of the better fine dining (let along knock your socks off views) on the island.

Just a hop, skip and a jump away from the property is Duke's beach fronting the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Some of the best surf breaks on Oahu's south shore are out in front as well such as Kasier's and Ala Moana Bowls. You also have Hawaii's largest mall, Ala Moana within walking distance.
