The Waikiki Landmark was definitely ahead of its time. The visionaries who breathed life into it were just around the time of the Japanese bubble of around 1990. By the time the building was completed, the market had already turned. The initial developer was Sukamto Sia, the former owner of Honolulu Bank. In 1995, Oaktree Capital took over the project after a group of Japanese lenders foreclosed on the project. So much money was put into the project by the original investors that by the time people bought in the late 1990's, they were buying in at a fraction of replacement cost. The building was initially all leasehold as well until the Ching Family decided to sell the fee interest to the unit owners around 2003.
Today, Waikiki Landmark is still considered one of Waikiki's luxury condominium highrises. Its unique architecture can be seen from miles away, with twin towers that are bridged by the penthouse levels at the top. Unfortunately, some of the units on the higher floors lost their views towards Ala Moana and the ocean when the Allure was built. The building also has a number of commercial condos fronting the street.
Below, you'll find the latest available Waikiki Landmark condos for sale. If you're considering a luxury condo purchase in Waikiki or own a unit at the Waikiki Landmark and are considering selling, feel free to contact me for more information.
